We Tested the Google Ads Double Expand Carousel – See How It Works

Google is currently testing a new visual ad format that adds an extra layer of interactivity – the Double Expand Swipe Carousel.

This format allows users to not only swipe through images in the standard carousel view but also tap on any image to open a larger, expanded carousel view. This creates a more immersive experience, especially on mobile devices, where every inch of screen space matters.

Two Levels of Interaction in One Ad

Here’s how it works:

  1. When the ad appears, users can swipe through the images as they normally would in a typical carousel format.
  2. If they tap on any single image, it opens into a larger carousel where they can continue swiping left or right – but now in a bigger, more prominent layout.

Google Tag Manager Gets an Important Update: What Does It Mean for Your Conversion Tracking?

Google has announced changes to how Google Tag Manager (GTM) works with Google Ads tracking. Starting April 10, 2025, GTM will automatically load the Google Tag before sending events. This change will improve tracking accuracy and may result in conversions appearing that were previously untracked.

What Exactly Is Changing?

Currently, GTM sends events first and then loads the Google Tag. However, from April 2025, this order will be reversed – the Google Tag will load first, followed by event data being sent.
